Microgaming’s Swanky New HQ Wins Environmental Award

The company’s new headquarters in Douglas on the Isle of Man has been awarded the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) rating of excellent – the world’s foremost environmental sustainability assessment.

Microgaming’s 45,000 square foot office complex on Circular Road, named Sixty Two, is one of the first on the island to achieve the top rating from BREEAM. The building opened on the 31st of July 2017 and took two years to complete. Smart lighting automatically dims to reduce consumption whilst the building also features a centralised recycling facility on each of its five floors. Materials used in the construction of the building, such as scaffolding, were also re-used to make furniture for the office.

The fourth-floor communal area of the building is particularly attractive to employees, and features a canteen and coffee shop with an exclusive Microgaming coffee blend, as well as a dart board, pool tables, a poker table, table tennis table and even a fully-stocked library. There’s also an exercise gym and fitness studio, a treatment room and a rooftop garden. Local TT rider Conor Cummins, proprietor of Coffee Mann, produced the special blend of beans and trained Microgaming staff to become better baristas.

Following a number of years of hard work and commitment, it’s incredibly satisfying to see Sixty Two open. A lot of time was spent understanding the needs and wants of our employees so that a building could be designed specifically with them in mind. All involved, including staff and suppliers, should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved – I can’t thank them enough. John Coleman, CFO of Microgaming

The building, which currently houses 231 staff, was designed by local architects Savage & Chadwick, with support from several other Manx-based businesses. The interiors were handled by Claire Coleman, who also designed bespoke extras such as the reception desks and external building signs. Internal graphics throughout the building, including a Culture Ambassadors wall, illuminated signage, and a bubble gum machine were produced by The Hive and installed by Vivid Ltd.

Roger Raatgever, CEO of Microgaming, said: “It’s incredible to think that when we set up Microgaming on the island back in 2001 there were just six staff. Now we are a campus in the heart of Douglas, with two large offices, and best of all they are connected by a sky bridge, which was a must for me! It’s an exciting new chapter for Microgaming and I’m immensely proud of what we achieved in our home.”
